I had wondered what DJ Quik had been up to, and then I stumbled upon this album one day last year. Kurupt puts out like 80 albums a year, so it's no real surprise he's collaborating with someone else from outside his usual camp, but this combination of people was intriguing to me. This album ends up being only OK and succumbs to the same pitfalls that DJ Quik's last couple albums had as well. I don't know if he just does a lot of drugs and it caught up with him after years and years, but he's clearly not as focused as he once was during the high points of his career. This more lax attitude to recording can also end up with pleasant surprises like "Jupiter's Critic & The Mind Of Mars", which almost sounds like an electronic song with their vocals purposely shittily distorted. Definitely unexpected for these 2. Kurupt's anti-female mentality is pretty out of control on a couple songs, and I kinda wish this album was more party oriented in it's subject matter. That all being said, I still like this album. It's enjoyable to listen to, even if it is a little on the short side. Quik is far from completely falling off, he's just not as good as he used to be, but still better than a lot of other people out there.
Producer: DJ Quik
A song typical of the album: "Watcha Wan Do"
Make sure to check out: "Ohh!", "Fuck Y'all", "Jupiter's Critic & The Mind Of Mars"
My Rating: 72/100
