Best Of 2011 part 8

Richard Cheese - "A Lounge Supreme"
I think maybe Richard Cheese's new stuff isn't quite as funny as most of his older stuff, but this is still a really good album. I've been waiting for him to cover "Shots". haha

Sepalcure - "Love Pressure Remixed"
Stellar remixes on here, especially the ones by Lando Kal and Daedelus.

Mono/Poly - "Manifestations EP"
I can't recommend a new electronic artist more. He hits it outta the park on almost every song he puts out.

Madlib & Frank Nitt - "Medicine Show #9: Nittyville"
This was the installment of the Medicine Show series that mysteriously didn't come out when it was supposed to in September of 2010. It finally surfaced in May of 2011 and turned out to be a really solid rap album with the Frank of Frank N Dank supplying the lyrics and Madlib providing the sonic backdrop of awesomeness he always provides.

Madlib - "Medicine Show #11: Low Budget High Fi Music"
This one was supposed to be out the week of Thanksgiving 2010, but was delayed and came out the first week of the year of 2011. Madlib producing new songs for various rappers very similar to his "WLIB- King Of The Wigflip" album from a couple years ago, but I think this is a little stronger than that album is.

Madlib - "Medicine Show #12: Raw Medicine (Madlib Remixes)"
This is a full length sequel to the old vinyl only Remix EPs he used to put out around 10 years ago. Just him making dope remixes using old acapellas from various people. Nothing super spectacular, but he definitely has the knack for this kinda thing.

Flako - "The Mesektet"
I like the way this guy does his full lengths. A lot of short songs under 2 minutes that are all varied and yet well executed. My only complaint is that maybe 5 of the tracks were reused from previous releases, but who cares when you've got 30+ other songs to choose from.

Siriusmo - "Mosaik"
Very solid LP. A little something for everyone that likes any type of electronic music.

Bare & Mark Instinct - "Murder Machine"
I think Bare should collaborate with people more often. His solo stuff makes him seem like a one trick pony that i'm going to tire of, but this EP makes me possibly think otherwise. Super hard and dancey at the same time.

Dimlite - "My Human Wears Acedia Shreds"
Just a great EP all the way through. The first song on here is one of my favorite tracks from the last couple years, easy.

Nappy Roots - "Nappy Dot Org"
I was never a big fan of this group. I liked a couple songs here and there, but mostly was never really diggin them overall. How good this album sounds is a testament to how much good production really matters in hip hop. Organized Noize (the people who made all the dope beats on the old classic Outkast and Goodie Mob albums) did this entire LP, and I will say 2 things about it: A- they have not fallen off at all, and B- they are really good at vocal production for rappers and making rapper's voices sound as good as they possibly can. Anyone that misses the sound of the first 2 Goodie Mob albums should check this out.

J*Davey - "New Designer Drug"
A newer pop act that's kinda hard to explain to people, but in my mind most of pop music should sound like this at this point in history, if we really truly are in 'the future'. Instead I think pop music as a whole has kinda stagnated itself since around 1992 or so, and not a whole lot has really changed like it did throughout modern pop music history before then. My point is that these guys are doin it right and people should check em out if they like pop or rock or R&B music at all, because they probably won't ever get a good push in the mainstream, because a group like this is hard for corporate tools to market to people.
