2011's Disappointments part 3

Mochipet - "Hello My Name Is Mochipet"
Mochipet seems to be a diverse and ever-changing electronic artist, and this seems to be his stab at the whole "electronic producer" album that sounds like a pop compilation, much like Crookers or Chemical Brothers would do. Anyone that has heard any of Mochipet's other music will know how much of a letdown it is that he would even do an album of this style. I think he's just trying to show the world he can do more than people think he can, but i'd personally rather hear his crazy shit and not this bland drivel.

Vast Aire - "OX 2010: A Street Odyssey"
I think this is just the continuation of the downward spiral he's been in musically since the Cannibal Ox album. It must suck to put out such a great album so early on in your career, and then spend the rest of your career trying to regain that same glory. There's still some OK songs here, but I think each solo album of his gets progressively less interesting and more generic sounding, and now this is solo LP #3 and it's still happening. He likes recycling old lines from verses into new choruses a lot.

Josh Martinez - "P.O.W. (Pissed Off Wild)"
I don't know if he was listening to Street Sweep Social Club and wishing Tom Morello would do an album with him, so he hired some Stephan Spielbergo version of him to be in his band or something, but that's how this album comes off. I think Josh's style is well-suited for a rock/rap album, but I just don't really like the approach he chose to take, and I especially don't like this backing band.

Yelawolf - "Radioactive"
This should have been one of the most popular albums of the year, or at least one that everyone was talking about. Instead it's on some "what the fuck is this horrible garbage coming out my speakers!?!" type shit. I feel like Eminem signed him to Shady/Aftermath and convinced him that it would be better to try and sound like a new version of him instead of just doing what had gotten him signed to the label in the first place. This album ended up sounding like rap for 50 year old white women instead of some hard car stereo bangers.

Hudson Mohawke - "Satin Panthers"
This EP isn't terrible, but after 2009's "Butter" being one of the best albums of the last decade to me, I really wanted his new songs to be better than these are. He went for a minimalist club banger approach, but it seems too contemporary sounding for him. I'm sure he's got plenty of new material about to be released out the cannon, so we'll see what he tries to do next.

J.Rocc - "Some Cold Rock Stuf"
For how long this album was delayed, and how tight of a DJ he is, I was expecting a lot more. Most of these songs are really boring for the most part. I know there is a lot of subtle sample work going on, and I appreciate that, but if it ends up sounding uninteresting, I don't see what the point of all that work chopping was.

Everlast - "Songs Of The Ungrateful Living"
Dude, kill yourself.... or at least stop making music....... please?

LMFAO - "Sorry For Party Rocking"
I legitimately enjoyed the first album. "Shots" is a classic party song and there was at least 4-5 other catchy club tunes on there. This album is just trying to keep that energy going, but with a more light, David Guetta style, electro-pop sound. I'm sure this album sounds good to people who never listen to any electronic music that's not on the radio, but to someone that hears a lot of it, this album is far too simplistic, production-wise. It's like they sucked the fun out of their gimmick they had going as well.
