2011's Disappointments part 2

Death Grips - "Exmilitary"
The idea and even the sound of Zach Hill making beats for a MC to rap on sounds good in theory. Too bad he recruited this homeless sounding dude who is so awful I can't even try to give this album a chance instead of a seasoned vet that would fit with this production style like Busdriver or Myka 9.

Electric Six - "Heartbeats & Brainwaves"
I was never a fan of this band, nor did I expect this to be good, but this is possibly the worst rock album i've ever heard.

Brian Wilson - "In The Key Of Disney"
WHY? Just gross...

The Cars - "Move Like This"
This was touted as their big comeback record, but Ric Ocasek should just stick to production nowadays.

Blink 182 - "Neighborhoods"
Was never a fan of this style of music, but this is lame sounding compared to a lot of the old stuff to me.

Shigeto - "New Light"
This isn't a completely weak EP, but when someone switches up their style like this, i'd expect it to be done a little better. I've always known Shigeto to do a varied form of beat scene electronic music, but this sounds like some jazz/electronic act that would be on Ninja Tune or something. I have no problem with the style change, but these songs are really simple and boring sounding. It's not jazzy or electronic enough, it's just some bland background music.

Doomtree - "No Kings"
I was wondering where they were going to try to go as a group, and the answer is apparently nowhere. Everything about this album sounds mediocre to me. The beats, the lyrics, the choruses. Throw the song-ruining force that is Dessa in the mix, and you've got one stinker of an album.

Mac Lethal - "North Korean BBQ"
I've always been a huge Mac Lethal fan and this is the first thing he's released that didn't really grab me. A lot of these choruses get repeated way too many times for how average they are, and these just generally sound like the throwaway songs from his new album "Irish Goodbye" now that i've had a chance to peep that one out. This album isn't terrible, it's just really boring and makes me feel apathetic.

Prefuse 73 - "The Only She Chapters"
2011 was a year that a lot of electronic producers that were known for making high energy music tried their hand at making music that was a lot more laid back and ambient. I don't think this worked out particularily well for Prefuse. This is a cool album to put on when you're falling asleep, but that's about it.

Georgia Anne Muldrow - "Owed To Mama Rickie"
She puts out so much material that this is just a bump in the road. I don't know if she was trying her hand at making a more contemporary R&B album, or if Mama Rickie is someone in her life that these songs are for, but I miss the more jacked up sounding Georgia Anne who talks about real philosophy in her lyrics and not God and Jesus.
