Best Of 2011 Part 12

Toro Y Moi - "Underneath The Pine"
I've heard a lot of people say that they like their first album from 2010 and not this one, and I guess I don't agree with that opinion. I think they took a little turn, similar to what MGMT did on their second album as well, that threw the audience they had built up for a loop, and some people don't enjoy being surprised (usually the same people who enjoy predictable, happy endings in movies). Some of the songs come off like a cheap Flaming Lips, while others are more dancy, but this is definitely more live-band oriented and less 80's nostalgic than the first album was. It's too bad they were really boring and borderline inadequate seeming in concert, but I still enjoy all their studio output a lot.

Reso - "Valken"
Reso has really honed in on a certain blend of hyperactive drum & bass and hard dubstep. "War Machine" is the standout A-Side track, but the other 3 songs hold up as well. I like this better than the stuff he's released since this.

Georgia Anne Muldrow - "Vweto"
This lady just will not stop hitting the world with a barrage of music. I'm not complaining. This might actually be my favorite album by her. All instrumental, I kinda feel like she was trying to dabble in making a "beat scene" album within her own style. I especially love the opening track "The No-No Chords".

Ryan Hemsworth - "A Way"
I know nothing about this dude. This was recommended to me by a friend as a free Soundcloud or Bandcamp download, and this might be the best find i've ever had on those sites. Very promising stuff here from various styles of electronic music, all executed well. I'm interested to see where he tries to fit in within the music world.
